Grass fed Meat

beefhdr.gifRecently I've made a huge effort to make sure the meat and poultry I purchase for the family is organic, even more so than the produce which I feel like I can wash free of the chemicals. While speaking with a buddhist friend of mine about organic beef, she mentioned that corn fed beef is more susceptible to illnesses such as ulcers, high cholesterol, and diabetes. One of the reasons that cows are pumped full of antibiotics are to help them with the disorders they develop from the diet they are fed. Which means if you're eating corn fed antibiotic free meat the animal probably suffered more from physical maladies in its time. Ironic and depressing. Especially since there is not a plethora of options for purchasing meat at the store. This is a site that discusses the benefits and drawbacks of grass fed beef.
