Trader Joe’s Turbinado Sugar

Trader Joe's Turbino SugarI decided to try turbinado sugar at my last visit to Trader Joe's. Its more expensive than regular evaporated sugar cane juice, but only twenty cents more than the normal organic sugar. It was $2.99 for 8 ounces of sugar. It has a very similar oder to molasses, and tastes good in my coffee. Its the same as "sugar in the raw", and can be exchanged with brown sugar in recipes. Although I like it, I'll probably return to the plain evaporated sugar cane juice next time I need to buy sugar.I haven't done a taste comparison, but for some reason I like the idea of sugar cane sugar better than beet juice sugar.

You got me thinking about what the real difference between evaporated cane juice and turbinado sugar was. Refined is, well very and unnecessarily refined, which I knew but really I wasn't sure about the others. So with a little research I found this great explaination not only about turbinado and evaporated but also sucanat, rapadura and demerara.

It also has a nutritional chart with comparisons on it.
