Does High Fructose Corn Syrup Cause Diabetes?

I've heard many rumors and suggestions that high fructose corn syrup contributes to type II diabetes. Is it true?

I'm watching King Corn and a professor from Harvard says that drinking one soda a day almost doubled the risk of getting type II diabetes as opposed to only occasionally drinking a soda.

So, why aren't there lawsuits against Coke and Pepsi by diabetes victims? There may be in the future, but there are some efforts to prevent them.

Take this law for example:

Personal Responsibility in Food Consumption Act

I'm not sure if individuals suffering from type II diabetes are suffering because of the actions of food manufacturers. I would like to think that people have choice over what they eat and would choose nutrition and health over taste and convenience.

I feel lawsuits should play a role amidst the complex relationships between American taxpayers, health insurance customers, and health care providers, farmers, and Federal subsidies.

Does high fructose corn syrup cause diabetes? If it does, that sucks. It also means that we American taxpayers are paying farmers to produce a product that causes us to get sick, and thus have to pay more for health care.

Good enough for government work?
