There are some mumblings about a soft drink tax, and even some talk about a tax on junk food in general.
Is it a soft drink tax, or a tax on high fructose corn starch?
Before you consider thinking about the answer to this question, please see the film "King Corn", and realize that the Federal government pays corn farmers an extra subsidy on the corn that they produce for use in manufacturing corn starch.
So, if there is a tax on soft drinks, it will be in addition to the taxes which pay for the subsidy on corn production. Why not just nix the corn subsidy? Oh wait, I forgot. The corn lobby probably got senators into office. Forget I mentioned it.
Yes, unfortunately, this is sometimes how our government works.
