Expensive Patagonia Wildflower Honey

I’ll admit it. I’m a hardcore bargain hunter. For me, its a fun challenge. I never cheat or even bend the rules to get a good deal. Instead, I try to get as best an understanding of the available products, values, and promotions available to me.

As I said, it is a challenge! I used to buy in bulk all the time. Then I found myself with lots of stuff going bad that I didn’t use too often! Or, on the other hand, I found myself with inexpensive products that I didn’t like because they lacked the quality I wanted. I guess I was being “penny-wise, pound foolish”.

Nowadays, I’m trying to distinguish between commodity products, like paper towels, for example, versus specialty or personal consumption products, like milk and honey - honey being the actual eventual focus of this post.

Expensive Patagonia Wildflower Honey

Today I spent $5.99 on a tiny jar of honey. Why? I figured that honey is:

  • Not something I usually buy - its a specialty treat item.
  • Its something that I don’t use very often either, so buying in bulk is not advantageous.
  • It stores well, but it does have a shelf life, so I’d rather run out before having it turn bad.

As far as I can remember, the prices ranged from $2.99 and up, with this interrupcion honey at the higher end of the price / ounce range. However, it was the smallest jar available so the final price was mid-range.

I liked the look of it, and really got a kick out of their label saying: “Consume responsibly.” I was looking for a treat, and this was it! I had some with my tea this evening and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I concur. I like to try out different brands of foods I use, even "expensive" ones, just to see if they're worth the extra cost. This honey I saw one day at Gristedes and decided to test it. It is definitely the best honey I've ever had, and this will be what I use in my tea and recipes for the foreseeable future. Social responsibility and sustainability are also some things that I support, and it's reassuring to me when that goes hand-in-hand with product quality. Highly recommended

Hi Phil, thanks for commenting! The only complaint I have against that honey is that it isn't local.
