This mini watermelon was really tasty:
It was on sale for $1.79 at the local Grosvenor Market, down from over $3. I would never have bought it at that price, but apparently that is the going rate. Trader Joe's also had a similar sized "personal watermelon" that they were charging over three dollars for.
It wasn't organic. It may have even been genetically modified in some way to make it be smaller. I'd like to think that simple selection was used to produce smaller melons, but I'm doubtful.
I just read up about watermelons on Wikipedia and learned that the white fruit flesh near the rind has lots of nutrients, and that the rind itself is edible as well!
